If you’ve suffered an Indiana work injury, you may already be familiar with what a Permanent Partial Impairment (PPI) rating is. If not, head over to this blog post to learn the basics. But if you are familiar with the term, the Indiana Worker’s Compensation Board just added a great new tool. It allows anyone to convert their (Permanent Partial Impairment) PPI ratings into dollar values. Please follow this link to access the Indiana Worker’s Compensation Board’s PPI Rating Worksheet.
PPI ratings frequently serve as the biggest factor in determining the settlement value of a worker’s comp case in Indiana. Our blog post on Permanent Partial Impairment (PPI) ratings discusses how PPI ratings for certain body parts have to be “converted” to whole body PPI ratings. It is important to understand those concepts before using the worksheet. Once you do, you’ll be able to put knowledge into action and accurately determine what your PPI rating should be. This can be valuable to ensuring that the settlement offer you received from the worker’s compensation insurance company is fair (believe it or not – we have seen offers to settle for less than the PPI rating!).
Before you access the worksheet, you will need:
- A copy of the doctor’s report containing the PPI rating
- A copy of the worker’s compensation insurance company’s proposed Agreement to Compensation (a.k.a. Form 1043)
- Most likely a laptop or desktop computer equipped with Microsoft Excel or some other spreadsheet program.
I don’t recommend trying to use the worksheet on your smartphone or a tablet. I tried it and couldn’t make it work.
Although this PPI Rating Worksheet is a valuable tool, it can be confusing for some. Salmon & Hewins ALWAYS offers free consultations, and if you have questions about how to use the PPI Rating Worksheet, give us a call and we’ll walk you through the process, free!
